Leaving A Job

Next month will be 2 years since I left my 9-5 to put more energy into doing what I love. I had a 'good job' in the City with great benefits but I knew I would be more fulfilled if I were being of service to people's hearts rather than their computers. I felt like I had one foot in two different worlds. I had been running my business on the side since 2015 and could feel the endless possibilities open to me if only I could focus on my business full-time.

My mum passing away that year was the final push I needed. I didn't want to be over 80 years old and bed-bound, with nothing else to do but look back at my life. Wondering how things would have turned out if I had made different choices, taken some risks and followed my heart.

It wasn't an easy decision by any stretch of the imagination. I was filled with doubt and went into major catastrophising - 'What if I end up with no money, lose my house and have to live in a box under a bridge?'

Sometimes when we are faced with a big decision, we think that's the last decision we will ever make. I rationalised that it wasn't in my nature to let things go that far and if I had to, I would find another job.

Once I took the leap, for the first few weeks I found myself having to soothe those fears almost daily but I knew that it would be a downward spiral into anxiety and worry if I didn't keep nipping it in the bud. The fear was soon replaced by a strong sense of freedom and by the joy I experienced from being able to help more people and express my creativity.

I'm not telling anyone to just leave their job, particularly without proper thought, planning and some contingency money but if something is calling you, it's calling you for a reason. It's calling you because it can see a greater vision that you can't quite see for yourself from where you are now. One where you are more than adequately supported and guided by the Universe because you have chosen to let go of what feels heavy to you in order to do something that makes you feel light and may even be of great service to others.

If you believe you have another calling, maybe start planning how you could transition. Write down what you need to do in order to be prepared. You might need to do a course, take a month off, travel somewhere, sell something, do some research, and explore different options and possible scenarios like doing it part-time initially. Play with the idea and really feel into it. See what fears come up for you and realistically examine the validity of those fears. Then, think about the impact of never doing it. Script a day in your new life so you can feel the emotions and see where it leads.

Only you know when the time is right to take that leap. You'll feel it so strongly in your heart that nothing will stop you. You'll also start to see signs around you.

There are no guarantees in life, we know that. If it doesn't work out, at least you learned something new about yourself but...what if it does work out?
