What is Distance Reiki Healing?
One of my favourite things to teach students on the Reiki Level 2 course, apart from the 3 Reiki symbols, is how to perform Distance Reiki healing (Enkaku Chiryo Ho).
Understanding the various ways we can send Reiki remotely means we can offer Reiki healing to anyone, no matter where they are in the world and regardless of their condition.
HOW IT HELPS
During the pandemic, many people needed help at a time when it was difficult for them to get out of bed, let alone leave the house to see a doctor. Being able to offer distance Reiki and have people report how much better they felt after weeks of feeling extremely ill was truly humbling.
When my mother was alive and living in St Lucia, I used distance Reiki to help her whenever she was in hospital. I’d always get a call the next day saying she had recovered.
Distance Reiki is also an ideal option for those in hospital, young children, teens and animals who won’t sit still for very long, or those who can’t have close contact. Of course, our online Reiki Share is also a form of distance healing where we feel the Reiki energy more intensely.
THE CLIENT’S VIEW
For those receiving Reiki, there is generally no difference between what they are ‘open’ to experiencing in person and what they experience remotely, depending upon how calm they are. Either way, Reiki is always working. The client can relax in their own home without the need to travel.
THE PRACTITIONER’S VIEW
Some Reiki Practitioners find distance healing easier as they can also relax in the comfort of their own space without becoming conscious of their bodily aches and pains from bending over a Reiki table. Some prefer the in-person connection and others, like myself, don’t mind either in-person or remote. Both are powerful.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
It’s difficult to say exactly how distance healing is working, but the Quantum theory of Entanglement confirms that, at a sub-atomic level, we are all one and there is no time or space that the energy ‘travels’ through - As soon as we focus on someone, we’re instantly connected.
An example of this phenomenon is when you’re thinking about someone, then they call you!
Some Reiki literature states that we need to know the person’s name, address, date of birth, when in fact the only thing we need to connect is their name ideally, a photo and perhaps the chance to talk to them, but other than that, nothing else is required. The energy will not get confused if it doesn’t have an address - It won’t go to the wrong Peter Smith, it will only go to the person we’re focused on and no one else.
There are ethical parameters, including receiving permission and agreeing on a time but it’s incredibly simple to learn. We can even set an intention that the Reiki is received at a specific time in the future which is handy if you’re in a different time zone to your client. This works perfectly for me and for many students who have had to do this.
The only thing that can dilute our experience, is our doubts. It’s important to practice trusting that Reiki is always working and not get distracted.
Everything else is the same, including the pre-Reiki preparation and post-Reiki advice.
If you’re seeking Reiki healing, knowing you can receive Reiki regardless of your location or situation is comforting. If you’re attuned to Reiki Level 2, distance healing is too valuable a gift not to use if someone needs it.
