Understanding The Sacral Chakra

about the sacral chakra

Chakra means wheel and refers to a vortex of three-dimensional energy that governs certain emotions and the organs / glands residing within that chakra. The sacral chakra sits at our lower abdomen, below the navel. It resonates with the water element and is said to be orange in colour

Over the years I've gained a deeper understanding of its power and how certain life events, behaviours, health and relationships can cause this area to become blocked.

Receiving
The sacral chakra is a vessel for receiving for both men and women. If we are unable to receive from others be it gifts, praise, a compliment or help or if we are unable to give to ourselves ie self-care, self-love, time, rest etc this may cause our sacral chakra to become blocked. The following are some areas affected by sacral.

Mother Line and Children
Due to the presence of the womb in this area, it makes sense that the sacral chakra is affected by pregnancy and childbirth so there can be a strong, shadow umbilical cord-like connection to our mothers, grandmothers and children here. If these relationships are dysfunctional in some way or if there has been experience of past trauma, then this energy can be held in the sacral chakra. I feel our wounded inner child lives here waiting to be moved into the comfort of our hearts.

Relationships
The link to the wounded inner child can also be found in our relationships. As well as governing our sensuality and sex drive, if we feel insecure in any way ie fear of abandonment, rejection etc this energy can harbour itself in the sacral chakra. As mentioned, the chakras are 3 dimensional, meaning the energy isn't just sitting on the front of our body but permeates the body, including the back. Lower back pain can sometimes be attributed to relationship problems.

Our Purpose
The sacral chakra can be out of balance if we aren't living our purpose. If we are doing something that doesn't resonate with our true, often creativity-based, path or if we have no outlet for our purpose, then we can feel that stagnant energy here.

Creativity
Being the point of creation and creativity, if we aren't tapping into our creative side in any way, then this chakra can be depleted. Doing anything that uses the right side of our brain such as art, poetry, music, writing, crafts, gardening, exploring and travelling, will stimulate our sacral chakra.

The Womb
For women, this part of our body can sometimes receive a lot of self-criticism, self-loathing and negative energy due to things like hormonal imbalance, menstruation issues, fertility problems etc and this negative focus only serves to compound those problems. It's important to send nurturing loving energy to this space to aid healing and balance. This works perfectly alongside medical intervention.

Feminine Power
Being the location of the womb, this chakra is considered to be the seat of feminine power and this power should ideally be in harmony with the masculine energy. This chakra is deemed to be a sacred space for women and so should be guarded with discernment to prevent depletion and a weakening of the soul.

The Gut / Gut Instinct
The lower part of the gut is present in the sacral chakra area so digestive issues can manifest here as well as the upper abdomen (solar plexus). Our 'gut instinct' also resides here. This is an innate, primal warning system which we often ignore. It differs from 'intuition' which is primarily led by human cognition

As you can see, several things can cause a blockage of our sacral chakra.

Of course, your doctor should always be the first port of call for any medical condition but if you are challenged by any of the above, you can try modalities like reiki, somatics or breath work.

You can also try placing your hands on your lower abdomen and breathe deeply into your lower belly, as you send unconditional, nurturing love to that part of yourself to bring healing or further insights.

Let me know if this aligns with what you have experienced.

Have a nurturing Sunday! 💜

With love and light
