The Power Of Proximity
When we have the intention to elevate ourselves in some way, like perhaps we want to develop a more positive mindset or start a new business or scale an existing business, we can sometimes find ourselves filled with self-doubt particularly if no one in our circle has achieved the things we are aspiring to achieve.
If the people who surround you are always complaining or gossiping, changing your mindset is going to be a struggle.
If you have an idea to start a business and everyone around you is telling you how risky it is, you’ll probably be too fearful to even research the idea.
If you want to scale and grow your business so you can help more people but you don’t personally know anyone who has achieved this, then it’s likely that you will continue to play it small and stay in your lane.
This is the power of proximity in action. In order to leverage it, we have to put ourselves in the company of those who are either looking to achieve the same goal or those who already are where we want to be.
Seeing evidence that something we previously deemed as 'impossible' is actually possible, soothes our subconscious mind by calming any doubts or fears we might have and makes the path easier as the unknown becomes known.
Finding like-minded folk
Finding a Meetup group is a great way to put yourself in the proximity of those who are doing what you aspire to do.
There are thousands of groups on Meetup where members meet regularly either in person or online. You can join a Meetup group for meditation, mindset, business growth, writing, dancing, various crafts, wine tasting, walking, running, dating, confidence, public speaking - just about anything, so it's well worth checking out.
I suggested it to one of my clients as her social life was non-existent because her friends were either coupled up or having babies. She also wanted to meet like-minded people. She joined a local group, has formed new friendships and is out literally every weekend now. 😂
If your goal is to exponentially grow your business, joining a Mastermind group is another superb way to be around like-minded entrepreneurs who share their ideas and inspire you to reach new heights.
