The Role of The Higher Mind
WHAT IS THE HIGHER MIND?
I was asked this unexpected but profound question by one of my Reiki students after referring to the 'higher mind' several times during class. Until then, I had taken it for granted that others would automatically know when I used the term, so it was a healthy reminder not to assume.
According to various spiritual teachers, our higher mind is the largest spiritual aspect of ourselves. It has a birds-eye view of our entire existence, so it can guide us through life by presenting us with ideas and inspirations to move us towards what will ultimately benefit and excite us.
It's as if our higher mind resides on the peak of the tallest mountain from where it can see our entire life stretched out before it. In comparison, we sit in the valleys with a minimal view of our lives and what lies ahead.
THE ROLE OF THE BRAIN
It's said that our physical brain and our 3D mind do not create ideas. Our higher mind conceives ideas, our brain receives the new idea - like an aerial receiving a signal and our physical mind perceives that downloaded idea ie becomes aware of it and interprets it.
We tend to get caught up in the 'hows' of something we want to achieve when this is not the intended role of our brain or 3D mind. Law of Attraction teachers, Abraham Hicks often say the same thing. We are great at working out how things have already happened but we’re not so great at knowing how things will happen or what will happen next and this can result in us feeling stuck.
HOW TO RECEIVE IDEAS FROM OUR HIGHER MIND
As mentioned, we have given the role of conceiver to our physical brain and this is not what it is designed to do, which explains why we easily get tired from thinking or overthinking.
Our higher mind is the spiritual aspect of ourselves and therefore will never steer us wrong. It is capable of conceiving ideas way beyond our 3D imagination. It's important to train ourselves to listen to it and trust it.
When we surrender the role of conceiver to our higher self and relax, the brain can receive those ideas almost effortlessly. This can happen through being still, quiet meditation, journalling, creative writing, poetry, art etc. We can then use our physical mind to execute those ideas.
If this resonates let me know.
