Protecting Your Heart

healing from heartbreak

After my previous relationship ended, I spent several years healing, discovering myself and following my passions. It was during this period that I dove deeper into my spirituality with the introduction of practices like reiki and meditation. Although I still experienced the occasional challenges of life, I had created a world that was generally peaceful and filled with things I loved… a world that felt very, very safe.

I didn’t realise that safety meant I wasn’t taking any risks. I wasn’t allowing anyone in that would disturb my peace, distract me from my goals, make me feel anxious or cause my heart to suffer any more pain. I desired a relationship but it wasn’t worth the potential upheaval - I wanted to preserve my peace more than I wanted a relationship.

This can happen to many of us after a breakup - I see it with my coaching clients too. We can be so deeply hurt that we naturally seek the safety and familiarity of avoidance but this limiting belief, this fear, creates a block to love that, rather than protecting us, keeps all forms of love at a distance, even effecting how we relate to our friends and family.

This self-imposed protection means we don’t show up authentically in our relationships - we don’t open up 100% which means we are not being our ‘whole self’. A relationship can’t grow or be fulfilling if neither person is being fully themselves. Holding back parts of ourselves prevents a deepening of connection on all levels, as no one can get past the high, cast-iron gates we’ve consciously or subconsciously erected to guard our delicate hearts.

In my latest episode of Ready For Authentic Love on Awakening Airwaves,I explore the first two of four relationship fears that many of us have experienced or may currently be experiencing, which could be keeping love away.

  • Fear of losing ourselves or our independence

  • Fear of being cheated on

Both were extremely strong fears for me and they still carry a slight resonance now but they’re nowhere near as prevalent as they once were.

These fears surround us in an energy vibration that, if left unchanged, can attract exactly what we are trying to avoid. So in this episode, I share guidance on the work we can do to start to soothe these fears and shift our vibration, both before we call in a relationship and during the early relationship phase.
