How to Move Out of Indecision
Finding ourselves at a crossroads, feeling uncertain about which path to take can be very overwhelming. In these moments of indecision, I have discovered some simple tools that can help us navigate life’s dilemma and guide us towards clarity.
FEELING HEAVIER OR LIGHTER?
When we deliberate on two options there may be one that literally feels heavier in our body when we talk or think about it. We might even feel our energy constricting as we contemplate that option. The other option may have the opposite effect and create a sense of lightness and ease in our energy. It makes sense then, that the lighter feeling option is probably the one to go for.
We can put this into action in a more conscious way by following the steps below:
Think or talk about each choice in turn and notice what happens to your body energetically.
Does your body constrict or expand?
Do you feel heavier in your heart or lighter?
Do you feel a knot or pain in your abdomen - perhaps from fear of the unknown but maybe from knowing it's not right for you.
Imagine the decision has been taken... How do you feel now? Is there a feeling of relief, joy, numbness or dread?
If you're still uncertain, test things out by flipping a coin. If it falls on an option and your gut reaction is 'Oh no!' then that's instantly revealing your true choice.
THE MIND THINKS BUT THE HEART KNOWS
Try connecting to your heart during meditation. Let go and wait for the answer to come.
Take a few minutes to relax in a quiet space.
Breathe calmly and a little more deeply than normal.
Place your left hand on your heart.
Ask the question or think about each option in turn.
Now, let go and continue to relax.
Notice what comes up - It can be words, pictures or a feeling.
If you get nothing at all, that's ok, create space in your mind by letting go of needing to make a decision for a few days and see what comes up.
ACCESS THE UNIVERSAL MIND
Just before we fall asleep our brain slows down and moves into alpha / theta brainwave states, which are very relaxed states of consciousness. This is an ideal time to connect to the Universal Mind and draw the answers to us. Simply ask your question calmly before you fall asleep and then let it go. Again, the answer can show up in the morning or over the next few days.
If after trying the above processes, you're still feeling unsure, make any choice with the understanding that it's not the last decision you will ever make in your life. Remember, movement forward creates opportunities, whereas not making a decision keeps us frozen.
