Coping With Shorter Days
As we move into Autumn and the colours of nature begin to change, I'm aware that some of you, like my daughter, are probably not looking forward to the prospect of shorter days and darker nights.
I'm not a doctor, so please seek medical advice but below are some ideas you can explore that can help shift our mood:
Vitamin D3 with K2, Vitamin B complex, Multivitamin and Minerals
Using a Light Box and turning on ceiling lights
Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables whilst reducing processed foods.
Herbal teas like chamomile, lavender, soursop, saffron, turmeric and lemon balm help to calm the mind.
Probiotics and Prebiotics - 90% of serotonin (the happy hormone) is produced by our gut
Exercising 2-3 times a week - movement shifts stagnant energy
Going outside first thing in the morning. Natural daylight resets the body's internal clock, boosts alertness and improves sleep.
Forest bathing or Shinrin-yoku, a Japanese practice started in the 1980s. Walking mindfully in woodlands, a park, a tree lined street or any tree filled area is excellent for our mental wellness.
Socialising with friends to avoid feeling isolated
Daily Meditation (of course )
Regular energy healing sessions such as Reiki to build our own internal light
5 MINUTE GRATITUDE PRACTICE
This has been a great addition to my morning routine. Sometimes I extend it to 10 minutes. It feels easy, quick and is really impactful.
Every morning, before you get out of bed, set your timer for 5 minutes and list all the things you're grateful for in your journal - large or small.
Writing them down rather than typing on your phone, is more intentional and deeply engages our brain.
Example
Thank you for this beautiful new day
Thank you for my cosy bed
Thank you for my health
Thank you for the trees
Thank you for my heart pumping blood around my body
Thank you for the sky
Thank you for the delicious food I'm about to eat
It's important try to see the blessing in every season if you can but be sure to find support in advance if you think you might need it.
With love and light
