Finding Peace

finding peace

Over the past week, I’ve heard from quite a few women who’ve said the same thing:

“I’ve just been too busy or too stressed to meditate… to do my self-Reiki… to check in with myself.”

I completely empathise because, up until a week ago, I was there too.

Since returning from my Japan trip, things have been pretty full-on with a backlog of things to do. My diary was overflowing, with little time for admin tasks, let alone time for me.  So I know first hand that life can feel like a constant juggle of work, family and endless to-dos but here's the quiet truth:

It’s catch-22

When we’re stressed and overwhelmed, that’s when we most need our spiritual practice, not just when it’s convenient for us but also when it feels impossible. When we skip it, the stress doesn’t just vanish. It builds. It lingers in our body, our nervous system, our energy field, until eventually, something has to give.

By the time that happens, maybe in the form of burnout, sickness or deep emotional fatigue, the very job or responsibility we were putting first will carry on without us.

It’s important to prioritise our wellbeing and our spirituality, so here are some things to consider:

SET AND HONOUR YOUR BOUNDARIES

I was way too busy and I could feel the frazzled energy in my crown chakra, which was completely different to the gentle tingling of Reiki I’m used to.

For me, the issue wa boundaries. I had to remind myself that I dictate what goes into my diary, so if I’m over busy, I only have myself to blame.

I was trying not to disappoint anyone but when I stuck to my boundaries by limiting the number of clients and meetings per day, I was shown that people were more than happy to wait a week or even longer.

SPEAK YOUR INTENTIONS

I revisited using my energy to set my intentions for the day ahead and swapped the mantra ‘I’m so busy’ for…

“I have a day of ease and flow”

Things quickly started to feel lighter, the pace slowed and I was finding space in my day again.

GROUND IN A DAILY PRACTICE

Buddha taught that practice is the path. It isn’t perfection or belief alone but practice with compassion.

A daily self practice is an act of love. It  doesn’t need to take an hour a day. You can interrupt the stress cycle in just 30 seconds, as one of my students suggested.

You can feel the ease in that already... Just 30 seconds.  It doesn’t have to be an hour or 30 minutes, it can simply be a pause in our day.

A ‘Pause example:

Take one long, deep breath in and out with awareness

Place your hands on your heart and just be still
Whisper to yourself, “I am safe. I am supported. I am coming home to me.”

Thank you , Thank you, Thank you.

This is spiritual practice. Its presence, self love and it’s enough to begin shifting our state.

Your daily spiritual practice can be anything you choose, as long as it helps you to de-stress and doesn’t harm you or anyone else.

So today,  gift yourself one sacred minute - not for anyone else, just for you. You’re allowed to come first, before the emails, the school runs and the deadlines. In fact, over time. You’ll show up more whole and able to serve in all of these circumstances.

With love and light
