Forgiveness Isn't Easy

Forgiveness is something many of us struggle with. We often fear that if we forgive someone we feel has wronged us, we are condoning their actions or inviting them back into our lives. However, having struggled with this recently and in the past myself, I know this isn't the case.

Being able to think of that person without an emotional charge or even find we no longer think of them at all, is the incredible freedom we receive when we decide to forgive.

Although there wasn't a strong emotional charge in my case, I realised that I was completely stuck in my rightness and from that headspace, I had no inclination to even do the forgiveness work that I know works so well.

This week at the Reiki Master Retreat Course I surrendered and as I guided my wonderful students through the Buddhist 'Loving Kindness Meditation' (Metha Bhavana) I set an intention to move to forgiveness when thinking of someone challenging.

We were surprised at how incredibly easy it felt to connect to that person with love after having focused lovingly on ourselves, someone we love and someone neutral. That love energy just radiated from our hearts leaving us feeling emotionally and energetically free.

For me, the Loving Kindness Meditation is the best way to energetically 'cut cords'. It's also a more powerful and loving approach compared to some other techniques, as it's performed without judgement of the other person and without ego. We then move on to the final part of the mediation which is to send loving kindness to all humankind without exception. It's a beautiful gift.

Sometimes the freedom is felt immediately and sometimes you need to repeat the meditation daily for a few days to get there. With each meditation, your heart softens and with it also comes a deepening inner strength as you let go of judgement of yourself and those around you.

With the loving-kindness meditation, you can either create your own blessings to repeat for each stage or you can find one that resonates with you.
