When a change you've desired for a long time is about to become a reality, it can sometimes feel really daunting. Particularly if the change is so close, all that's left is for you to make a choice about whether to move towards the change or stay where you are.
One of my students was facing just such a dilemma. She's been house sharing for years but has felt strongly drawn to move out, live on her own, have her own space and her own peace. However, when the opportunity to do this manifested, her fears were stirred and she began to worry about it being too expensive to live on her own.
When faced with this kind of dilemma you might want to try the following process to help you make a decision:
On a piece of paper, write down the decision you're facing at the top.
Now write down why you originally wanted this change.
Underneath, draw a line down the middle of the paper and in the left column, list your fears about following your desire.
In the other column, write down what you would do if that fear actually happened - Go there.
On another sheet detail how you would feel and what life would look like if you don't make the change.
Now explore what life could look like if you did make the change and it was 1 year later.
This is a great way to soothe and de-catastrophise the fears by coming up with options. It also helps us to familiarise ourselves with the change in a safe, virtual way.
One thing I've learned in life is that moving towards an idea you love is far better than staying where you are because of fear. It requires trust but also an understanding that when you get there, things will continue to evolve, including you and the resources available to you.
Let me know if you try this process!
