Let It Go to Let It In : How to Have the One Thing You Want Most

Updated: Aug 21

How to let go

Many of us have that one thing on our wish list that we desperately want but it always seems to elude us. It could be a better job, a loving relationship, a new baby, great wealth or better health. No matter what that thing is, it just never seems to come to us.

You know it’s possible to have because you see others with it, so why not you?

Maybe you’ve done affirmations, meditations and visualisations about this thing you want so badly or perhaps you’ve prayed for it daily. You may even have promised God that you would do or be something as soon as it is given to you, but still it doesn’t come.

So now you decide that the reason it isn’t coming is because you’re not good enough or worthy enough and if you just work on becoming more spiritual, kinder, better, then surely it should just drop in your lap!

Simply put, nothing you have tried has worked and now the subject actually fills you with despair and longing whenever you think of it. You may even fear you will die never having experienced what you so dearly want for yourself.

SO WHY ISN’T IT COMING?

The number one reason something we really want does not come to us is ‘resistance’. The desperation for it, the feeling that you don’t deserve it, the longing for it, the sadness or jealousy you feel when you see others with it, all of this is resistance and resistance keeps the door closed whilst what you is outside knocking.

Understand that, before anything can exist as physical matter, as something you can see, hear, touch and taste, it has to exist vibrationally first. What you want has already been created for you from the first point of asking. It exists in the vibrational world of infinite possibilities and it IS waiting to materialise physically but if there is resistance and that resistance isn’t released, it will slow things down or even block what you want.

The Law of Attraction states that ‘like’ vibration attracts ‘like’ vibration and the slow, heavy, low vibration of resistance is opposite to the fast, light, high vibration of Creation.

When we let go of the desperation and struggle, what we want suddenly appears.

This has happened to me many times. I tried for a year to conceive a baby and felt so depressed every month when I realised I wasn’t pregnant. One day I just let go and gave thanks for the opportunity to be able to try again. I feel pregnant shortly afterwards and my beautiful daughter, who is now 18 years old, was born.

SO HOW DO I LET GO?

Make Peace With Where You Are

Firstly, you need to make peace with where you are in relation to what you want.

If you're consistently focused on what you don’t like about your current situation, it means your vibration is one of lack, complaining and ingratitude so what comes to you from the Law of Attraction has to be more of the same. Nothing changes.

Look for something to appreciate in your current situation. It could be something quite small or general like knowing it’s not over yet or being grateful for your health, being able to pay your bills or understanding that things could be much worse and finding the gratitude that way. A daily gratitude list is also a great way to do this.

It is very important to make peace with where you are somehow because it takes the desperation out of the equation and releases the resistance.

The Sedona Method

The Sedona Method (see video below), devised by Lester Levenson and taught by Hale Dwoskin, also gives us an easy way of ‘letting go’. This is one of my go-to tools. It’s a simple process that works really quickly for me so you may want to give it a try.

To bring up and release any resistance, do the following steps:

  1. Think of or visualise what you want.

  2. Notice when the resistant feeling or thought occurs.

  3. Take time to acknowledge and welcome that resistant feeling. Sit with it for a moment.

  4. Could you let the resistance go?

  5. Would you let it go?

  6. When would you let it go?

Your answers to questions 4 and 5 should be a simple ’yes’ or ‘no’. Try not to over analyse it. Answering ‘no’ is fine. Just be honest with yourself.

Think of what you want again. If there is still resistance, repeat the above process and keep repeating it until the resistance no longer comes up and you can enjoy thinking of your goal without any negative thoughts popping up.

Remember to also let go of the ‘How’ because the Universe knows of infinite ways to bring you what you want beyond anything you can try to imagine.

Finally, you need to let go of the ‘wanting’. When you let go of the wanting you’re not letting go of the desire but just the ‘wanting’ aspect. You can use the Sedona Method above to do this too. Just replace the word ‘resistance’ with ‘wanting’ and work through the process in the same way.

Letting go of your goal means you are giving your desire up to the Universe and creating space for it to materialise.

Be filled with gratitude as if it were already here and trust that it will be delivered to you in the best way possible.

Let me know if you have a letting go process in the comments below.
